Philosophy

Department of Philosophy

About the Department:

The Department of Philosophy was established in 2007, the same year the College came into existence. Since its inception, the department has offered Philosophy as an elective subject under the B.A. programme. Its primary objective is to introduce students to the essential concepts and traditions of philosophical thinking, encouraging them to explore life’s fundamental questions and develop critical reasoning skills. The department supports students in understanding philosophical perspectives that span across time and cultures. It places emphasis on nurturing rational thought, moral reflection, and intellectual curiosity. Special attention is given to students who require academic support, through remedial and mentoring sessions. Despite facing limitations in faculty strength, the department remains committed to the comprehensive growth of its students—academically, ethically, and personally.

.

“To cultivate reflective minds and ethical individuals through philosophical learning, fostering a deeper understanding of self, society and the world”

The Department aims to:
i. Provide foundational knowledge in Philosophy as part of the undergraduate curriculum.
ii. Encourage critical and independent thinking in students to help them engage with real-world issues.
iii. Support students in developing thoughtful perspectives on moral, social, and existential matters.
iv. Instill values of humanism, open dialogue, and responsible citizenship through philosophical exploration.
